December Report

Santas visit the library

Eventually, following a prolonged search, the promoters found Janet Gittins, the winner of the first prize in our Grand Draw, she lives in Minsterley and was thrilled with her prize. The Friends were then able to spend some further time preparing the library garden in preparation for Santa’s arrival. Santa was very impressed with this, his first view of the garden and suggested that it will look great in the spring when the bulbs come out.

Santa arrived on his sleigh as expected on 11th December to inspect the library ready for Christmas and was met by a whole array of his helpers, large, small and canine (see photo). He sent them off on a run round the Hill (see photo) while he prepared for an inspection of the village. The first back from the run was David Schwartzer from Minsterley with Santa Poppy in record time. Santa then went on an inspection of the whole village on his sleigh, pulled by Rudolf and a Range Rover. He was followed by Santas and elves and pronounced it a great place to come back to. He will pay us a ‘flying visit’ on Christmas Eve and says he will come again in the spring when the garden will look wonderful, especially as he was told there might be another surprise by then – watch this space.

After Christmas, on 12th January, Santa’s elves will also come back to collect your used Christmas Trees. They can be delivered to the places described in the notice or, by arrangement, can be collected from your home before the dustbin men (see separate announcement). The ‘chipped’ remains of the trees will also be available for sale for your garden. Please support this Wood Matters ‘Chipping for Charity’ recycling initiative as the proceeds will ‘help to keep our Library Open’.

The U3A group has met and are very keen to get a University of the 3rd Age (U3A) set up at the Library. A further open Public Meeting will be held on Friday 3rd February at the Congregational Church Hall at 7:00. The meeting will be addressed by a member of the U3A headquarters staff and it is hoped that an interim Steering Group will be set up and that our U3A will get under way very soon. A further announcement will be made in the next Newsletter – watch this space.

Our next fund-raising event will be a Valentines Ceilidh at the Public Hall on Saturday 11th February. Dancing will be to ‘CuckCuriosity’. All adults and children welcome, there will be a hot supper (included in the ticket price) and a bar so put it in your new diary. Details will follow in the next Newsletter. Tickets will be very reasonable and will be available from the Library and the usual sources. Do come along and enjoy a real family ‘do’. You won’t regret it. – Watch this space.

The Friends of the Library would like to thank you for all your support over the past year, to wish you a very Happy Christmas and to assure you that there will be lots of super events to support in 2017. The Library will definitely remain open till at least the end of March 2018 and hopefully beyond. Keep joining the Library, borrowing books and signing up to join the Friends.
