Sing-along with Lock-down!

Pam Wyatt is a member of the U3A Writing Group which meets on the 1st and 3rd Thursday mornings of each month at the Library from 10 till 12.  Pam has been a writer of poems and stories for many years. Our recent assignment was about our everyday life during the pandemic.  Pam came up with offering below, and I’m delighted she’s allowed us to share it on the FOPL website.  Thanks Pam!

C 19 Sing-a-Long (With apologies to many song writers )

What’s it all about Alfie?

Help! The Writing’s On The Wall. Yesterday All My Troubles Seemed So Far Away. Oh Doctor I’m In Trouble, I’m Gonna Sit Right Down And Write Myself A Letter, or be a Paperback Writer, drinking Red, Red Wine, be Forever In Blue Jeans or Put on my Baggy Trousers, eat Food, Glorious Food and be All By Myself.

There May Be Trouble Ahead, but try to Relax, for We Can Work It Out. Hallelujah! Empty, The Streets Of London but I  can do it My Way. I want to go to New York, New York in a Big Yellow Taxi ,alas no Breakfast At Tiffany’s and I Left My Heart In San Francisco.- No Trains, And Boats And Planes but Hey Big Spender I think We’ll Meet Again.

Mamma Mia, I’m Busy Doing Nothing in Our House. Just A Minute, Mister Postman : Knock Three Times. I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair, for I Know Him So Well.

I can Tiptoe Through The Tulips and Tie A Yellow Ribbon Round The Old Oak Tree, But Don’t Sit Under The Apple Tree or Underneath The Spreading Chestnut Tree, Lazing On A Sunny Afternoon.

Feed The Birds, What’s New Pussy Cat?

Now When I’m Cleaning Windows Or Hanging On The Telephone I’m dreaming of A Slow Boat To China. It Started With A Kiss!

They say Keep On Walking, and These Boots Are Made For Walking. You’ll Never Walk Alone, except you must be 2 metres apart. So Walk On, Walk, On With Hope In Your Heart. And Here Comes The Sun.

Does Your Mother Know You’re Out? No but Don’t Stop Me Now. I’m Still Standing and Walking Back To Happiness but You Can’t Take A Goldfish For A Walk! But I could take a Hound Dog, if I had one…

Here’s my advice From Me To You. What  can you do with your Three Little Maids From School? Make Matchstick Men And Matchstick Cats and Dogs? And sing The Wheels On The Bus Go Round And Round ..again….

Well, Let’s Dance. And be a Private Dancer, for You Make Me Feel Like Dancing. Better Than Singing The Blues. God Only Knows when It’s Time to Say Goodbye. I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues.  So Move Like Jagger , Twist and Shout and Dance The Night Away.

Maybe Whistle A Happy Tune and I’d Like To Teach The World To Sing. Sing, Though Your Heart Is Breaking.

Don’t Go Breaking My Heart, not while we have Oliver’s Army to help out, Hit The Road Jack along The Yellow Brick Road and  Somewhere Over The Rainbow there’s a Yellow Submarine, Oranges And Lemons,  A Red, Red Rose, Blue Suede Shoes, The Green Green Grass Of Home, Purple Rain and then we can Sing A Rainbow.

Don’t Go A Whiter Shade Of Pale or Paint It Black.

Remember : It Ain’t Over ‘Til The Fat Lady Sings.
